After an enforced six week absence it was a pleasure to attend such a vibrant Parish Council meeting last night along with Cllr Catherine Braun. Cllr Linda Cohen sent apologies.

Debbie Hudman our local PCSO and Caroline Chater our local Police Officer from Dursley Police Station were present at the meeting. They want to listen and work with community. Debs gave an overview of the numbers of crimes in the area which were very low, dropping to zero reported incidents since April which is quite remarkable.

She stressed the importance of private CCTV though. Police were notified of an individual caught on a driveway, the high quality images linked the same individual to a vehicle theft over in Wotton sometime later.

The PCSOs are stretched, fewer in number than there used to be. But they work closely with the parish clerks, The Keepers and Town Council over in Wotton.

In coming weeks a mobile speed detection van will be deployed in the village which also has the ability to detect mobile and seat belt offences. Some parking issues close to the Blackhorse Inn were noted and although not normally a policing matter they will seize vehicles if necessary. Please park considerately was the message.

They are also involved in responding to Internet Fraud. The elderly sometimes become victims of these crimes.

There was then an update about the Recreational Field and Pavilion followed by a short presentation by George & Dan who are working at setting up a trail 50k ultra marathon, over a weekend, next summer maybe over the Aug bank holiday. If successful it could develop into a bigger event the following year. Sounds like a fantastic idea.

The meeting went onto the November SDC report. The main topic of conversation was the Govt. decision that it is 'minded to' confirm a single unitary authority for Gloucestershire. A final decision is expected before Christmas, and in the event that the single unitary council decision is confirmed vesting day will be delayed by a year. This will have some major financial considerations as the council was expecting to run down its reserves until the new authority takes over. A Teams meeting I attended earlier in the week seemed to suggest a figure in the region of £42m for the county in total.

A new Town & Parish Council section has been added to the Future Gloucestershire web site.
